2016 Employer of the Year

Each year, local Workforce Boards nominate employers for the Texas Workforce Commission’s Employer of the Year. Nominations must focus on initiatives that have a positive effect on current and future workers. The employer must use innovative approaches to support the Texas Workforce system’s goal of ensuring both employers and workers have the resources and skills Texas needed to remain competitive.

Texoma’s nominee for 2016 is Emerson (formerly known as Fisher Controls) located in Sherman. Emerson has been a premier employer since they opened in 1976. They offer a friendly work environment that promotes the well-being of their employees. Emerson is generous with their community, adopting an elementary school, providing school supplies, holiday food and Christmas gifts as well as supporting United Way.

In the past year, plant manager, Mark Anderson, has provided leadership for the Middle Skills Project with the goal of creating a pipeline of manufacturing workers in Texoma.  Emerson has provided more than 600 tours to students, parents and counselors this year.  For the past 6 years, they have participated in teacher externships, helping to align education and business.

Emerson was nominated for the Texas Large Employer of the Year as well as the Local Employer of the Year.  Large employers are described as those employers with 500 or more employees company-wide.

Emerson was selected as one of 3 finalists for the Texas Large Employer of the Year.  Workforce Solutions Texoma is honored to count Emerson among our employer partners and we realize Texoma is the true winner for having this incredible company in our region.

Congratulations, Emerson!
